Mobile shopping increased 70 percent this Cyber Monday as compared to last year. According to IBM’s Benchmark Cyber Monday report which looked at online retail sales up until 12am PT on Monday, this year 18 percent of consumers used a mobile device to visit a retailer’s website.

These numbers come from IBM Digital Analytics Benchmark’s tool, a cloud-based Web analytics platform that tracks more than a million e-commerce transactions a day. According to the metrics, 13 percent of consumers made a purchase using their mobile phones, a 96 percent increase over 2011.

Shoppers also used their tablets to shop, the iPad being the most popular “driving more than 7 percent of online shopping.” The  iPhone generated 6.9 percent of mobile sales and Android devices generated 4.5 percent. Here is more from IBM: “The iPad also continued to dominate tablet traffic reaching a holiday high of 90.5 percent. Amazon Kindle leapt into second at 2.6 percent followed by the Samsung Galaxy at 2 percent and the Barnes and Noble Nook at 0.6 percent.” Overall, on Cyber Monday online retail sales were up 30.3 percent over 2011.
