ABC Stations Sees Record Mobile Traffic During Storm Coverage

ABC’s WABC & WPVI digital properties had record viewers during Hurricane Sandy. According to the media outlet, the WABC and WPVI mobile apps were in the top ten free news apps, a first for the company.

WPVI also had 13.1 million page views across its mobile and desktop sites on Monday. The site had more than 9 million page views on Sunday. WABC had 7 million page views on its mobile and desktop and 2 million monthly unique visitors on Monday. During the storm, the TV stations made their broadcasts available on all mobile devices for the first time.

The Weather Channel also had a record day on Monday, recording 450 million page views from all of its digital properties.

Brightest Flashlight Free and The Weather Channel app have joined the top of the free Android apps list this week, according to research from Google Play. Both apps were useful tools during Hurricane Sandy.

Stamped competitor CircleMe has integrated with Songkick’s private API to give users updates when their favorite bands are playing near them. CircleMe gives users away to bookmark their interests and meet other like-minded people to trade recommendations and make future plans. Yahoo! acquired CircleMe’s biggest competitor, Stamped, in order to build a new center for mobile product development in New York City.

Domino’s Woos Pizza Orderers with Dinner and a Movie

Domino’s Pizza has partnered with Lionsgate UK to put a new spin on the classic dinner and a movie date. Launched today, Domino’s Pizza Box Office pairs online pizza orders with streaming movie rentals for customers in the UK. While the selection is not as broad as Netflix’s database of TV shows and films, Domino’s claims to make new releases available for download at the same time that they are released on DVD. That, and they’ll bring you a pizza.
