Lawsuit Claims Pinterest and Investor Brian Cohen Copied Plaintiff’s Website (SocialTimes)
Theodore Schroeder, who worked with early Pinterest investor Brian Cohen on a previous project, has sued Cohen and Pinterest for passing ideas he brought to that project to Pinterest’s co-founders, who used them to develop the successful social network. Schroeder, a lawyer who lives in Ocean City, N.J., claims he created the idea of a “board” as a platform for sharing content while working on a website called RendezVoo with Cohen and others in 2007 and 2008, and that Cohen handed the idea to the founders of Pinterest in 2009 along with some angel funding.

Social Media Stock Tracker: Uneven Performances in 2012

In a quiet holiday week heading towards 2013, there was little meaningful news and accordingly, the social media sector was down a percent. WEBM, the parent company of SocialTimes, led the week with a 3% gain, but the performance of most stocks was somewhat driven by year-end trading on tax considerations. For 2012, the five pure play social stocks with the most visibility (FB, GOOG, LNKD, YELP, and ZNGA) showed uneven performance for the year, with a combined average gain of 1%, despite significant volatility and variance (see below for more details).

Instagram Sees Active Daily Users Decline Dramatically

 

In the wake of privacy policy changes at Instagram, the popular photo sharing app has seen its daily active user count decline dramatically on Facebook.

The New York Post has more: “Instagram users outraged over new rules made good on their threat to dump the popular photo-sharing app … Instagram, which peaked at 16.4 million active daily users the week it rolled out its policy change, had fallen to 12.4 million as of yesterday, according to the data. Last week, Instagram changed its terms of service to pave the way for advertising.”
