Dennis Crowley: Foursquare 'More Interesting' Thanks to Being Based in New York City

Dennis Crowley is already a veteran of one New York-based tech startup in the form of Dodgeball, and now he is charge of another in Foursquare.

We asked Crowley about what it takes to launch a startup in New York, and how it compares to Silicon Valley in terms of culture and availability of financing.

“When Alex [Rainert] and I were trying to raise funding for Dodgeball we had a really tough time, there wasn’t a strong angel network here in New York, especially for tech startups,” Crowley says.

Now that has changed, as Foursquare’s recent funding round can attest to.

We also discussed whether being based out of New York added anything to the company or its product:

“I think the product is a lot more interesting because it is based out of New York,” Crowley says.
