CNET News reports that even though the Amazon Kindle is expensive at $399 and has numerous flaws, that didn’t stop consumers from buying out all of Amazon’s initial stock in 5.5 hours, according to the online retailer.
That didn’t prevent some snickering from around the Web, such as on Slashdot.org, with one commenter saying that they may have only had one in stock, and that “it was bought 5.5 hours after launch by [CEO Jeff Bezos] to ensure amazon.com was still up.”
With the Kindle, “Amazon is hoping to succeed where hardware companies like Sony have failed. No e-book reader has ever been a market success,” the CNET News article said.
