‘Discover a Book’ Releases Marketing Tool for Self-Published Authors

Discover a Book, a self-publishing website, has released a new tool called Publisher’s Portal that lets self-published authors promote their books to book stores and libraries.

The tool, lets authors make excerpts from their books available to digital booksellers, book distributors and libraries, for a $35 fee. Authors can also use the tool to share excerpts  on websites, blogs, Facebook or Twitter.

Betty Greenfield, president of Publishers Portal and DAB explained in a statement: “Discoverability is key to book sales. Book buyers like to sample books by reading a little bit while searching online. If they like what they read, they buy the book. The availability of excerpts has been found to increase the sales of a book by 7%.”
Here is more about the service from the Publisher’s Portal website: “The DAB database holds approximately 300,000 Chapter One excerpts, all supplied by the publisher/imprint/copyright holder with their full permission for use. More than 600 established publisher/imprints, including giant companies like Random House, Harper Collins, Hachette, and Macmillan, send first chapter excerpts of their books, to Dial-A-Book (DAB) for distributing in its database.”
