It looks like DISH Network might actually have plans for the wireless spectrum it picked up in the FCC’s auction last month. Fierce Mobile Content is reporting that the satellite TV provider hooked up with Alcatel Lucent to trial a DVB-SH mobile broadcast TV trial over the summer in its Atlanta lab.
The goal of the trial, according to the article, is to “validate the performance and cost-efficiency of the DVB-SH standard, which can be used in any frequency spectrum below 3GHz.” The companies hope to prove that the standard will prove efficient for delivering TV services to devices ranging from cell phones to in-car units.
