First, radio brought us the disc jockey, or DJ. Then, MTV took things one step further with the video jockey, or VJ. Now, the cable network is at it again, naming Gabi Gregg as its first Twitter jockey, or TJ.
Gregg was the winner of “Follow Me: The Search for the first MTV TJ,” a contest from MTV and ZYNC from American Express, winning a nationwide vote that wrapped up the three-month competition between 20 candidates.
Gregg, 23, graduated cum laude from Mount Holyoke College in May 2008 with degrees in International Relations and African American Studies, and she is the founder of blog Young, Fat and Fabulous.
The newly created TJ position involves engaging the cable channel’s audience, answering questions, and providing behind-the-scenes information, links, and exclusive media across MTV.com, Twitter, Facebook, blogs, and in 30-second sponsored on-air interstitials, MTV said.
Maintaining her Twitter form, Gregg said:
So much to say about how I feel right now, but keeping it to 140 characters or less I’ll say, #VMAs here I come! THANK U to #ZYNC, #MTV and most of all the fans whose votes got me here! I promise I won’t let you down! #ZYNCmtvTJ
