WordsMoveMe.jpgSony sought to complement the release of its wireless Sony Reader Daily Edition Tuesday with the launch of Words Move Me, which it described as “a new online destination empowering readers to share their favorite moments from the literature they love.”

Words Move Me users create profiles and share their favorite literary passages in Twitter-like intervals of up to 255 characters apiece. The Sony Reader Daily Edition is not required to join Words Move Me.

TechCrunch pointed out that Words Move Me functions as viral social marketing, as links to the Sony Reader Website and eBook store are prominently displayed. Sony told TechCrunch integration with Facebook and Twitter will occur in the next version of the site.

Sony Digital Reading business division president Steve Haber said:

We strongly believe that the future of reading is a shared experience. We created Words Move Me as a way for readers to remember their favorite moments and share those moments with others, creating a richer and more interactive engagement with books.
