Particle Brand created a service called Robo.to that allows Twitter and Facebook users to publish four-second videos that serve as visual status updates, The New York Times‘ Bits reported.
The microvideos can be uploaded from Webcams or mobile-phone cameras and added to Facebook and Twitter with a few lines of text, according to Bits.
Robo.to also debuted its TV Mode Monday, which enables users to watch all videos associated with a particular keyword or hashtag.
Robo.to is currently free-of-charge, but Particle Brand chief executive Rey Flemings told Bits the company is exploring rolling out paid premium accounts or partnering with companies and marketers that want to host branded contests.
Flemings added:
We already know what I’m doing, but what does that look like? We aren’t trying to create the next big destination on the Web. It’s still very early for us as a service, but we’re hoping to introduce a whole new method of short-form video communication.
