Dr. Who Tried to Save Neda Speaks with BBC

The BBC snagged an interview with Dr. Arash Hejazi, who tried to save Neda Agha-Soltan after she was shot in the chest during a protest in Tehran.

Hejazi said he wanted to speak out so that Soltan’s death was not in vain, but he doubted that he would ever be able to return to Iran. “It was a tough decision to make to come out and talk about it, but she died for a cause,” he told the BBC. “She was fighting for basic rights…I don’t want her blood to have been shed in vain. She died on the streets to say something.”

Speaking about Iran’s government, he added, “They are going to denounce what I am saying. They are going to put so many things on me. I have never been in politics. I am jeopardizing my situation because of the innocent look in [Neda's] eyes.”

Hejazi is studying at a university in the south of England, the BBC said.
