eBook Single Releases Up 18% in Q2: Thin Reads

Publishers released more eBook singles during the second quarter of 2013 than during the first quarter. According to the Thin Reads exclusive analysis of Amazon’s Kindle Single Best Sellers,  ninety-six titles were released to the market during Q2, as compared to 81 during Q1, an 18% increase.

Non-fiction represented fifty of those titles and fiction represented forty-six of those titles. Interestingly, ninety-three of these titles were original and hadn’t been published elsewhere, suggesting that publishers are using eBook singles as a channel to release original material and not simply for backlist works.

“This quarter saw an abundance of high-quality work from prominent fiction and nonfiction authors,” stated Howard Polskin, editor-in-chief, Thin Reads.  ”Many of them wrote their first e-book single this quarter.  It’s clear that the rapid emergence of the e-book single form is leading to a rebirth of long-form journalism and the art of short story writing.”
