Edmunds Now Provides Used Car Prices In Android App

If you are in the market for a new or used car, your smartphone can be a handy tool for doing research on cars. Edmunds is one of the most widely known car buyer guides and while the app has been available for Android for some time, it has not been until recently that it began providing used car prices. Previously the Edmunds app only provided new car prices.

I like the fact that the Edmunds app is optimized for how it is most often used, searching for information on new and used vehicles. When you start the app you see a simple, two-tab display to search for new or used vehicles.

Used vehicle searches have three criteria, make and model, year, and location. By default the app searches for vehicles within 50 miles of your current location, but you can change the location by entering a zip code, and the distance can be increased to as much as 500 miles.

Actually, I don’t know why the used vehicle search has a distance option because it does not search dealer inventory to find available vehicles like it does for new vehicle searches. What you do get from a used vehicle search a price estimate calculator based on Edmund’s information on the fair market value of the vehicle.

For example, I ran a search for my 2007 Chevrolet HHR, which returned one model with four different option packages. The starting price for my 2.2L LT model is $9,161 but you can refine that price by providing more information such as the vehicle mileage, color, condition, and options. Edmunds actually provides three different prices, a trade-in price, private party price, and dealer retail price.

If you are in the market for a used vehicle, the Edmunds app is a very handy pricing guide. Install the app, be sure to take your phone with you while shopping, and check to see whether the price being asked for is reasonable.
