MocoNews is reporting that ESPN and Major League Baseball’s Advanced Media group have both extended their digital rights deal through 2013, which includes cell phones, MP3 players, and video game consoles. The ESPN portion on mobile is significant because this marks the first time the deal was rewritten after Mobile ESPN shut down.
The ESPN deal covers ESPN.com, ESPN360.com, ESPN Mobile TV, ESPN Mobile Publishing, ESPN MVP, video game consoles, interactive television, ESPN Radio, ESPN Game Cast, and portable devices like the iPod and the Zune. The deal also includes syndication of ESPN-licensed content. The rights extend worldwide except for Korea, Japan, and China. In addition, MLB will permit live streaming of games for the first time.
