By now you must have at least once seen an Evony ad; you know, the lewd banner ads that feature a buxom woman asking you to ‘save the kingdom’. Well, it seems as if Evony wasn’t happy to just plaster Facebook full of ads, they’ve ported the game to be available on Facebook. It’s got 300,000 monthly active users and is actually a decent game. But that doesn’t excuse their ridiculously false advertising.
The game is a city simulation and persistent world game, similar to something like online Civilization. A player joins the game and is immediately thrust into the role of mayor. They then must give instructions on how to allocate resources such as gold, food, lumber, stone and iron. This affects the population and also the buildings in the city. As players increase the population, they gain power and can start building an army.
The game allows players to attack other player’s cities, although that’s prohibitied against new players who have a special “protection”. Players can upgrade their army and buildings, improving defenses and attack, and taking over another city takes a lot of resources and is for advancedp layers. The game uses dual currency so that players can do a lot with the in-game money they earn by playing, but can also accelerate their pace by using real money to buy a secondary currency. Â Prestige is an important element of the game, and is something like experience and leveling. Although it is different from Honor, another in game item that kind of determines whether you’re good or evil (do you attack or help other cities).
Throughout the world, the game has 18 million registered players, but there is no mention of how many monthly active users the game has. These days, that is the key statistic, and a recent analysis of dating sites found that while they would consistently promote numbers like 20 million users, an analysis of their monetization and price per user meant that only 20,000 were actually USING the site. Try the game and let us know what you think.
