Facebook Working on Social Reader App: Report

facebook, social networks, social media, social apps, mobile apps, social reader, readerFacebook is developing a social reader app similar to Flipboard, according to a Wall Street Journal report citing anonymous sources.

The mobile app would highlight media content shared within a user’s Facebook network but might also include status updates, according to the report.

The app aims to drive up the amount of time users spend on Facebook using their mobile devices, which would drive up the company’s mobile advertising revenue.

“The opportunity to own the place where people go for long-form reading is a very large opportunity, especially for advertising,” said Josh Elman, a venture capitalist at Greylock Partners, told the Journal.

Flipboard, the leading social reader app, has more than 50 million users.
