FeedM8, a mobile advertising company, just launched Web-Alerts.com, a free (ad-supported) service that monitors Web sites and sends full updates via text messaging. For the monitoring to work, a site must be RSS-enabled. Remove the marketing speak, and it essentially takes an RSS feed and turns it into text messages.
FeedM8 recommends it for tracking Digg, Craigslist, popular blogs like BoingBoing and TechCrunch, and monitoring developing or breaking news stories as they develop. The company then places mobile ads, shares revenue with publishers, and provides analytics and reporting.
