The Library of Congress will be hosting the National Book Festival this weekend in Washington DC. This is the eleventh time that the LOC has held the event, and like past years it will be occupying a sizable part of the National Mall this weekend.
Booths, pavilions, and attractions will be stretched from 7th St to 14 St. Each of the pavilions will focus on a particular interest, like Contemporary Life, Fiction & Mystery, History & Biography, Contemporary Life, or Poetry & Prose.
There will also be dozens of authors on hand to contribute to discussions and sign their books, including Sherman Alexie, Neal Stephenson, Julianne Moore, and many others.
OverDrive will be attending this year, and the centerpoint of its display will be the Digital BookMobile. This is full-size tractor -trailer rig that OverDrive uses to promote eBook and audiobook borrowing in libraries.
Amazon and OverDrive just launched Kindle library eBooks this week, and the new service is not available every where just yet. If you’re going to be in the DC area this weekend, the National Book Festival would be a great opportunity to get your first look at a Kindle using eBooks from a library.
