Augmented Reality in a Contact Lens (IEEE Spectrum)

The technology is still in its early stages (In recent trials, rabbits wore lenses containing metal circuit structures for 20 minutes at a time with no adverse effects) and is working with an 8-by-8 matrix of LEDs. Then, there’s the problem of creating an optical subsystem that actually lets you focus on images being created on the surface of your eye. So, this is very far away from commercialization for consumer use. But, it sure does spark the imagination, doesn’t it? Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated :-)
