Former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright Joins Twitter as World Leaders Gather at United Nations

Madeleine Albright, who served as secretary of state for President Bill Clinton, is now on Twitter. You can find her at, quite simply, @madeleine.

The first female secretary of state made her debut on the microblogging service Monday, as world leaders began to gather in New York City for United Nations meetings.

Her profile reads: “Grateful American Czech immigrant, mother & grandmother, fmr SecState, passionate democrat, author, prof, bizwoman, pin collector, & occasional drummer.” There’s also a link to her Facebook page.

As of the writing of this article, Albright had almost 25,000 followers. She has posted six tweets.

And one retweet, by the Clinton Global Initiative:

Albright joins the ranks of other former secretaries of state to join Twitter, including Hillary Clinton, and Condoleezza Rice.

She is following 27 Twitter accounts, including the United Nations, Council on Foreign Relations, and U.S. Holocaust Museum.
