Four Complaints About Javitz Center

As Book Expo American winds down and we go through all of the great material we gathers on the show floor, I have to admit that I’m happy not to have to go back to Javitz Center for a while. Book Expo America is a lot of fun and I’m so happy that it is here in New York especially since we didn’t even make Amazon’s Top 20 reading cities. But I do think that Javitz Center could use a little sprucing up.

1. Bad Wi-fi and Cell Service: It is supposed to be a place of business, but the Wi-Fi is spotty and you’d be lucky to get any bars on your cell phone downstairs.

2. Bad Food: New York has some of the best food in the world, but you wouldn’t know it at Javitz. It’s bad, costs too much and takes forever to get. Even JFK has some tasty grub if you are in a newer terminal. Compared to Moscone Center in San Francisco, which is surrounded by great food, Javitz is lacking.

3. Rundown building: Did you notice that the ceilings leak and that there are pigeons flying around? I’ve seen water dripping into the corners of the building and pigeons there. I know it’s New York and all, but I think the Port Authority could work on this a bit better.

4.  It’s really far away from everything: Ok, I know it’s a space thing and there is nowhere else big enough to house something as giant as Book Expo America in Manhattan, but it really takes forever to trek out there. I admit, there is little that can be done about this. Thankfully Book Expo is in May, not January.
