Users will see notifications under the Friends tab, where their activity feed appears.
Last week, Foursquare launched a filter that allows users to limit their searches in the Explore feature to locations that are recently opened. The notification pushes that content to the user’s activity feed.
The emphasis on new businesses has a clear potential to establish a revenue stream for Foursquare: Businesses could pay to be included in the Explore search and/or to have their new listing pushed to users.
