Foursquare Rolls Out Smarter Venue Pages in App Updates

foursquare, local search, social networks, social networking, social mediaFoursquare released an Android update today (and subsequently for iPhone) that serves up different versions of a venue’s landing page depending on how the user navigates to the page.

If the user comes to a venue page through the Explore tab, he or she is likely deciding whether or not to go to that place, Foursquare deduces. The updated app displays the venue’s rating, contact information, hours and, if applicable, menu.

If the user has already checked in to a location, its hours are less relevant. In that use case, the venue page displays who else has checked in and popular tips — “to make sure you order right,” Foursquare said.

The venue page also displays options for users to rate the venue and leave a tip.

All venue pages now feature bigger, swipable photos at the top.

The app will come to iPhone “soon,” Foursquare said.
Foursquare launched the iPhone update December 17.
