Features boasted by Fox News for iPad include live streaming, breaking news alerts, Fox News Radio audio, slide shows, videos, and the ability to share content via Facebook, Twitter, and email.
The free app also offers Happening Now, which allows users to swipe for a quick peek at latest news; and Fox News Ticker, which sends headlines directly to users’ desktops.
ExxonMobil is the launch sponsor for Fox News for iPad, and its advertising appears throughout the app.
Fox News vice president of digital media ad sales and business development Jeremy Steinberg told Mashable the app was built from scratch, and it waited until now to ensure that Fox News for iPad would be a financially viable product.
Steinberg told Mashable:
It’s very easy to navigate, very visual, and very easy to read. We waited for the right moment. We want all of our products to be viable financially. We decided we wanted to work with one sponsor.
He added that the app currently does not offer live streaming, but it could be added in the future, pending deals with cable operators.
And VP and general manager of digital media Jeff Misenti said in a release:
We’re very excited about the launch of this new product, which aims to integrate all parts of the channel, and we have already received a tremendous number of requests for the app from our loyal audience.
