Fruit Ninja Sequel Based On Puss In Boots Theme Launching October 20

Casual games with movie tie-ins don’t tend to fare so well but the landscape is changing We’ve seen Angry Birds make a debut with a movie tie-in called Angry Birds Rio that’s done quite well for itself and the movie it promotes. The latest news to come from the movie tie-in gaming space is Halfbrick’s announcement of Fruit Ninja based on Puss in Boots. More after the jump.

Australian developer Halfbrick is currently working on this new version of Fruit Ninja centered around the animated cat we have known for quite some time. According to DreamWorks, Puss In Boots is one of the most popular animated cats in the world. This new title will be a result of Halfbrick’s collaboration with Dreamworks and THQ.

In this magical sequel, the game will feature 2 new modes: Desperado and Bandito. Desperado is akin to Classic mode and has new magic beans and enhanced waves and scoring features added to it. Bandito is a new mode focused on providing players fruit-slashing challenges.

“The fun and adventure of the Puss in Boots world lends itself perfectly to the core gameplay of Fruit Ninja,” said Phil Larsen, chief marketing officer at Halfbrick, and a man who obviously thinks Puss in Boots is a movie about chopping fruit while avoiding bombs. “We wanted to create something new and different for our fans while keeping the magic of Fruit Ninja intact, and we think Bandito Mode will keep even the most practiced players on their toes. It’s totally rad!”

The game is set to launch on October 20th, 8 days prior to the launch of Puss in Boots in Cinema, as a paid title, $0.99 on iPhone and $1.99 on for the HD iPad version.
