Get Ready for More Games and Movies: Wii U Hits Stores November 18

Nintendo announced that the Wii U will launch on November 18 in the U.S.  The popular gaming console has come a long way from the 80′s and 90′s, but it looks like some classic games will continue to make their way into the future – and, in a way, so will your old television set.

Here are a few of the 50 games that are reportedly in the works:

  • “007 Legends”
  • “Bayonetta”
  • “Call of Duty Black Ops 2″
  • “Lego City: Undercover”
  • “Metroid”
  • “Skylanders Giants”
  • “Super Mario Brothers”
  • “Transformers Prime – The Game”

If you want more than just games, the Wii U console can also be used to stream TV shows and movies from Netflix, Amazon, Hulu Plus, TiVo DVR, and regular television. Said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime, “Today, Wii is in tens of millions of households, primarily as a game console attached to that big screen where the family gathers.” With TVii, he explained, “we’re expanding with a broader entertainment experience.” With the new system, everyone in the house will be able to personalize their experiences based on their interests, what their friends like, and what’s trending.

Wii U will hit stores in Europe on November 30 and in Japan on December 8, just in time for the holidays. Lucky for Americans, the console will line the shelves  a couple weeks before Black Friday, giving shoppers plenty of time to decide if they want to wait for a discount or live to see Thanksgiving Day.

Go feed your piggy bank now. The basic Wii U (white) will come with 8GB of internal memory for $299.99; the deluxe version (black) will come with 32GB of memory and a copy of Nintendo Land for $350. They don’t come with controllers or nunchakus, but the good news is that your old ones will likely work with the new console.
