GetJar Adds Social Media Integration

GetJar is a mobile application store that has apps for Blackberry, Symbian, Windows Mobile, and Android. One of GetJar’s biggest claims to fame is that it was the first site to have Angry Birds for Android. The GetJar store now has integration with Facebook, which provides a way for people to share with their friends information about the apps they install on their phone.

The GetJar mobile app store is accessed via a web browser at m.getjar.com, and it automatically detects what phone type you are using. To share information on Facebook you need to give permission to GetJar via Facebook Connect, after which you only need to tap the Facebook Connect button to sign in.

When you install an app while signed in, GetJar automatically posts an update to your Facebook wall that you just downloaded that app. GetJar does not interface with the Android Market, so it directly downloads application “apk” files to your phone. In order to install apps downloaded from GetJar, you must enable installation from Unknown Sources by tapping Menu, Settings, Applications.

GetJar also provides the ability to post comments that you enter about an app directly on your Facebook wall, even if you have not downloaded the app. Comment posting includes the ability to Like Or Dislike an app.
