Independent mobile app store GetJar is crowing that consumers have downloaded more than 400 million applications from its service. With support for some 1,300 handset models, GetJar averages 30 million downloads per month.
Since it’s second only to Apple’s iTunes App Store in terms of popularity, GetJar decided to survey some of its US customers to get a feel for how, when and where they use the goodies they download.
Some 68% of respondents said they surf the Web more on their mobile device than they do on a PC. They’re also heavy mobile content users, with 50% of those surveyed admitting to downloading at least one app per week.
The most popular handsets for downloading content from GetJar are the Samsung Instinct, LG CU920, BlackBerry Storm, Sony Ericsson W580i and Nokia 6120.
As for finding content, 36% are most likely to hear about it from friends and 21% usually learn about new content and apps from browsing and search.
