Michael Phelps proved without a doubt that he’s the fastest man in the water by winning an unprecedented eight gold medals at last summer’s Olympic Games in China. Now, Phelps is expanding into the video game market, but don’t expect him to do so with his characteristic speed. The Michael Phelps Foundation announced a deal with L.A.-based 505 games to release video and iPhone video games featuring Phelps and possibly some of his teammates. The first of the applications is scheduled to be released in the spring of 2010.

With the games, Phelps hopes to raise the profile for the sport of swimming. In addition, a portion of the proceeds from sales of the application will go to the Michael Phelps Foundation, which promotes healthy and active lives for children, primarily by encouraging participation in swimming (hence, a video game).
