Google has acquired Omnisio, an Atherton, CA-based startup, TechCrunch is reporting. The deal is reported to be worth about $15 million; the company was founded by three people in Australia within the past year.
The report said that the service lets users annotate videos, mash various clips up, and synchronize Slideshare presentations to videos, which would enable sleeker conference presentations. “Omnisio users can extract sections of clips they find on the web (currently only those on YouTube, Google Video, or Blip.tv),” the report said. “They can then take those clips and stitch them together to form new, embeddable compilations.”
Google doesn’t make acquisitions like this very often. At the very least, anything that shows up on YouTube can be filtered through YouTube’s various mobile content services. It remains to be seen how this purchase will affect YouTube’s feature set.
