Google Docs for Android Update Makes it More Tablet Friendly

Google Docs has not been particularly friendly to smartphones and tablets. However, Google has been making steady progress in removing that reputation. Unlike other recent mobile announcements which were web based, this Google Docs enhancement is an update for an Android app that takes advantage of the larger display of Android Honeycomb tablets.

An enhanced Google Docs experience on Android tablets

Installed on an Android tablet, the app provides a three-panel view that displays filters and collections, a document list and details about individual documents. Other enhancements in the 1.0.27 update are:

- Details panel showing a thumbnail and sharing information
- Improved sharing experience with autocomplete system
- Landscape or portrait mode
- Improved video playback

I’ve found the Google Docs app to be only useful for reviewing documents since its editing capabilities are relatively primitive.

You can find this free app in the Android Market.
