Google Now Continuously Scanning Installed Apps for Security Threats

Android apps from Google are now getting an extension of its Verify apps security features. From this day forward, all apps you’ve already installed will be scanned for security threats. If something is detected, you will be notified with a warning similar to this:

Google app verificationGoogle app verification

The chances of  apps going rogue after installation is slim, but having continuous app verification and on-device monitoring can help you detect trouble as it arises.

The good news is that very few people have ever encountered this; in fact, we’ve found that fewer than 0.18% of installs in the last year occurred after someone received a warning that the app was potentially harmful.

Even though the risk is miniscule, we’re committed to making sure that the best available security protections are available to all Android users.

How to set up Verify apps:

To manage app verification, go to your device’s apps menu and touch Google Settings > Verify apps. Touch the box next to verify apps; the setting turns on when the check mark appears. If your device is running Android 4.2 and higher, you can also go to Settings > Security > Verify apps.

If you have a tablet with multiple users, only the tablet’s owner can change this setting.
