Living in a major tourist city like San Francisco means I’m constantly being asked to take photos for strangers – I don’t mind at all, but I know they’re almost always hesitant to ask. It doesn’t have to be that way if they have a smartphone and this app, Groopic.

The app was launched in July for $1.99 for iOS, but it’s now available for free in iTunes and on Google Play. To use it, all you have to do is take a series of photos of the same scene, and the app does the photo stitching by combining all of the people in all of the shots. By marking the photographer, you won’t get duplicates of anyone, unless that’s your real intention. You can take the same photo of yourself in different locations, and it’ll still work – in fact, I think it’s an unmentioned option.
