GeoSolutions BV Business Unit (GyPSii), the mobile digital lifestyle application and geo-mobility social networking platform, today announced that the company signed with Nokia to be the first location-based social networking application on the touchscreen Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.
Using GyPSii, members can locate friends, share information on nearby points of interest such as restaurants, bars, and clubs, view and share user generated content, and perform mobile geo-location content searches. GYPSii will soon be available for download on the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic via Download! Nokia’s on-device content distribution service at download.nokia.com.
Apps like this are interesting due to their LBS-related features, but the level of customer take-up usually depends on how walled-off (read: logins, shared databases with other services like MySpace, etc.) the service is. This one seems pretty walled-off, so it’s hard to see how it will rise above the noise (other than the fact that Nokia will push it for their supported handsets).
