Hawaii 5-O Smartphones: iPhone & Windows Phone for Good Guys, Android for Bad Guys?

I’m a fan of the reimagined 2010 version of the Hawaii 5-O TV show. One of the things that struck me about the show is that it frequently featues smartphones. The recent episode “Heihei” (air date Nov. 23, 2010), for example, featured a running joke about Danny “Danno” Williams’ (Scott Caan) difficulty with typing on a touch screen keyboard. He was reminded several times to turn his phone sideways to get a bigger keyboard. The bad guy in this same episode used what looks like some kind of HTC Android phone with a remote detonator app (see the photo to the left).

Danno has what might be the keyboardless Windows phone 7 Samsung Focus. He manages to take a photo of a map and send it using email or MMS in the episode.

He probably should have traded phones with Kono Kalakaua (Grace Park) who appears to have an LG Quantum (Windows Phone 7) which has a slide out keyboard. Kono uses the phone to track an armored car with bags of money tagged with GPS devices.

Team Leader Steve McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) used an iPhone 3GS in the series’ early episodes. I assume he has upgraded to an iPhone 4 since then.

I didn’t note which phone Chin Ho Kelly (Daniel Dae Kim) used. However, it looked like some kind of flip feature phone. I suggest that Google’s public relations people get on the product placement list to have Chin Ho use an Android phone so it doesn’t become simply the chosen phone of evil-doers on the show.
