HootSuite Grows As Other Social Dashboards Are Eaten

The social dashboard HootSuite has reached the 5 million user mark, the company announced today. The company grew from 4 million users in just two months, fueled largely by expansion into Europe and Asia.

The company’s growth stands in stark contrast to the fate of other social dashboards, which have mostly been absorbed into larger services. Twitter acquired Tweet Deck in 2011, and CoTweet morphed into Exact Target’s enterprise-only product Social Engage early this year.

Meanwhile, HootSuite acquired another popular dashboard service, Seesmic, in September.

HootSuite offers native support for seven social networks (notably excluding Google+ profiles). It offers add-on third-party apps that allow users to interact with many more networks. (Earlier this week, it added StumbleUpon and Reddit.)

The Canadian company, led by founder Ryan Holmes, remains private with 230 full-time employees. It brought in $20 million from OMERS Ventures in March.

The company says 1.3 billion messages have been sent through its dashboard.
