When the news broke that Pinterest is now the third most popular website in America, a reader asked if there were any good directories for finding the top users by category. While the image-sharing site doesn’t have a definitive leaderboard, there are a few good places to look for influential pinners.
Virality is the name of the game on this Pinterest influence and analytics site that used to be called PinClout. Ranked on a scale of one to 100, users are rewarded for leading rather than following others, and receive more points for repins than for pinning something new. To calculate your score and discover new pins, sign up for a PinReach account with your Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest credentials.
- The Highest Reach leaderboard ranks the top users by score. When you click on the profiles, you can see an analysis of their most popular pins and boards, their most influential followers, and downloadable charts.
- The Trending Pins and Trending Members will show you in real time what’s popular on Pinterest.
This PinReach competitor measures Pinterest influence on a 100-point scale, as well as the value of the pins and referral traffic to advertisers. Anything over 50 is considered to be a good score. Rather than ranking its members by the numbers, Pinpuff aids discovery with a “random user” button and a separate page with relevant pinners in popular categories. Log in with your Pinterest credentials to calculate your own score. To see what’s trending, click on one of the categories below to see three people who are currently pinning about it. Keep clicking the shuffle button until you find someone you like.

Pinterest’s search bar is the best place to look for pins on any subject, but you can also click on the “everything” tab at the top of the page (see above) to find a pull-down menu of popular categories. If you click the “popular” tab, you’ll get a snapshot of everything that’s trending online.
The company blog will occasionally do a round-up of current trends, but the Pinterest team generally leaves it to the pinners themselves to determine what’s hot.
