Last week Instagram introduced a video feature that lets users share 15 second videos. In the first 24 hours, the site reportedly had 5 million video uploads.

Unlike a photo, with video you have to think about both image and sound. To help capture decent sound, Instagram recommends that use an external microphone, such as Apple’s iStabilizer iRig mic. They also recommend that you make your own wind shield.

We recommend that you focus your camera and the mic in the direction of the subject you are recording and be aware of any background noises in the field that you are recording. If you are recording someone at a noisy event, try to find a quiet hallway to film them at. If you are filming someone outside, take a break if an airplane flies by. If you are recording people speaking inside turn off the air conditioner or ceiling fans.
