HTC Partnering with Dropbox to Provide 5GB Free Cloud Storage to New Phone Buyers

Pocket-lint reports that people who buy new Android phones from HTC will get a very useful bonus service.

New HTC users to get 5GB free Dropbox service

Anyone can get 2GB of Dropbox’s cloud storage service for free. Dropbox’s first paid level is 50GB for $9.99 per month. So, while the free 5GB of storage does not approach the paid level, it is a nice space bump upwards for a very useful service. There is no indication if this increased space is permanent or for a limited period.

Pocket-lint notes that HTC has not indicated if this offer would be available for people who buy HTC’s Windows Phone products. Dropbox does not currently provide an app for Windows Phone. So, it may be unlikely. Moreover, Microsoft has its own Skydrive cloud storage service that provides 25GB for free. Skydrive is not fully integrated in Windows Phone 7. However, it has fuller integration in Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango).
