Playing games on a smartphone or tablet can be fun, but as any dedicated mobile gamer can tell you there are downsides to playing on a touchscreen. If you’re using a smartphone the screen is too small for you to see the controls as well as the rest of the game and if you’re playing on a tablet then your wrists tend to get sore if you play too long.

Thanks to iCade’s 8-Bitty, most if the issues will go away.

ThinkGeek has just unveiled the new controller and it looks like it is going to be quite useful. The 8-Bitty looks like it was inspired by the controller for the original NES.  It runs on 2 AAA batteries, has 8 buttons, and connects to most Android and Apple devices via Bluetooth.

The iCade 8-Bitty is compatible with a number of games. You can find it on the ThinkGeek website for $30. It is ThinkGeek’s second product in the iCade line. The first was the iCade, a custom dock for the iPad which turned it into a table top video arcade. That device was originally posted as an April Fool’s Day Joke, but after the incredibly positive response ThinkGeek developed it for real.
