In the five months since Clear Channel Radio launched its iheartradio application for the iPhone, the free app has been downloaded more than a million times.
Building on the success of the streaming radio application, Clear Channel has gone live with the beta of iheartradio for RIM’s BlackBerry platform.
Clear Channel Radio streams iheartradio content at 64 Kbps and uses the AAC audio codec format instead of MP3 for higher-quality sound. It must be doing something right because usage minutes are growing at an average 13% per week.
Iheartradio gives listeners access to more than 150 radio stations across the US in a variety of genres including local, sports, talk, traffic and, of course, music.
Initially, iheartradio for the BlackBerry is available for the Pearl, Curve and Bold. A version for the storm is “coming soon.”
