Infographic: The Evolution of Smartphone Etiquette

Infographic: The Evolution of Smartphone EtiquetteToday’s infographic illustrates how technology and culture evolve together in a cyclical nature over a lengthy period of time. Sometimes, the synergy between two very different devices can take decades to merge into a cultural phenomena.

Take texting and driving for example. The first car, the Ford model T, was introduced in 1908. No laws would be created to prevent texting on phones while driving  until 2001, nearly two decade after cell phones were publicly available. Since then, all sorts of legislation controlling the use and dissemination of phones, apps, and networks have been suggested, argued over, and approved by general and political consensus.

Laws and etiquette, like political boundaries remain within individual countries and should rarely be assumed for different cultures. What’s polite and legal in the US, is not necessarily true for China.
