With YouTube’s eighth birthday just around the corner, on February 14, 2013, UK-based video production company Shorty Media has put together an infographic on the “Brief History of YouTube” to show their love for the online video sharing site.
Shorty Media’s infographic presents a timeline of the past eight years, as YouTube has grown from zero to over four billion video views a day (impressive, eh?). The infographic runs through the company’s major milestones, from the first video uploaded in April 2005 to Google’s acquisition of the site in October 2006, one billion, two billion, three billion and four billion daily video views, the launch of True View ads and more.
Today YouTube has over 800 million monthly unique visitors, who are collectively uploading over 72 hours of video per minute and watching over four billion hours of video each month—as the infographic points out, “That’s over 450,000 years of video viewed each month!”
Check out the full infographic below and let us know what you think. Are you surprised by YouTube’s massive growth? How long do you think it will be before viewers are watching five billion hours of YouTube video each month?
