IQ games have been popular on Facebook since Playfish released “Who Has The Biggest Brain”, and while the genre has fallen off a bit in popularity, new games like InGenius attempt to raise the bar and re-establish the genre. There’s no doubt that Facebook is the perfect place for an IQ game, as players can compete with one another and determine who really is the smartest. It’s not for everyone, but that highly competitive gameplay definitely attracts a core audience. In line with that, InGenius measures the performance of their players and have found that women are performing better than men, and that the Generation X age group is topping the charts in intelligence.
The game revolves around playing mini games and getting scores based on your ability to demonstrate your perception, memory, math and logic. The games are well animated and have good sounds and an easy to understand user interface. The game is certainly reminiscent of games like Brain Age, and the funny looking ‘doctor’ character is by your side at every step to let you know whether you’re doing well or not.
The most interesting elements to me was that the game allows you to look at who’s doing best in the game, and looking at the above image, we can see that the 31 to 50 age group (Generation X) is kicking the butts off the rest. I’m not sure how the algorithm works at this point, but it certainly fosters some global competition. Women also proved to be superior to men in the game.
