iOS still won’t let apps automatically download content while they’re running in the background, and that limits the usefulness of a lot of apps. But not Instapaper.
This app got an update Sunday night which enables a new feature. You still cannot have the app download content all the time, but you can have it download new stuff whenever you arrive at certain locations. For anyone on a regular schedule, this should be almost as good.
You could set the app to download when you arrive at the office, or at certain points on your regular commute, or even as get home in the evening. The app supports 10 locations as triggers, and the locations are stored internally (and not shared).
The 4.2.2 update also includes improved typography and miscellaneous bugfixes, but that’s not the cool news. You can find the app in iTunes.
And in related news, Instapaper just released new Android app this morning. You can now enjoy all the same reading fun that you enjoyed on iOS on your Android device. The app can be found in Google Play.
