In spite of (or perhaps because of) the ongoing royalty saga, Internet Radio posted huge gains for the month of June, according to comScore MediaMetrix’s latest rankings and analysis of U.S. online activity, MediaPost is reporting.
In fact, radio was the top-gaining Web category in June, with a 34 percent increase from May to 48.9 million unique monthly visitors. The biggest contributors were Yahoo Music, which led the growth in the category with more than 25 million visitors (up 11 percent), AOL Radio, which rose 11% to 3.2 million visitors, and Disney Music, which grew 16% to 1.1. million visitors, according to the story.
There are numerous ways to listen to Internet Radio on the go if you have a smartphone – this author has reviewed some of them for PC Magazine – but it’s still a rare feature for regular cellphones. Hopefully that will change soon, because many stations out there are good enough for consumers to leave their iPods at home.
