Viral Radar: iPad Head Girl Shows Men What Women Want

The guys from Thinkmodo are at it again.  They’ve already hacked video billboards in Times Square, created a shaving helmet, and hosted a nude gaming party.  Now they’ve built a girl with an iPad head to promote the iPad only magazine, Cosmo For Guys (CFG).

iPad Head Girl walks around Bryant Park in New York, giving guys a glimpse into a girl’s head to show them “what women want.”  Michael Krivicka from Thinkmodo told me via email that CFG is the first iPad only magazine created by Hearst.  ”Hearst asked us to create an original viral video campaign for them that would generate buzz for it.  They didn’t want to do a hoax and they also didn’t want to use a celebrity.  They saw our work and wanted to do something edgy and innovative that hasn’t been done before.”

The idea is pretty great, if you ask me.  Not only is it cool to see a girl walk around with a head made out of iPads, but it also offers up a nice message about the product.  Michael explains, “We wanted to illustrate the idea of a guy ‘getting inside a girl’s head’ and sort of ‘reading her mind’ by flipping through the magazine pages on the iPad.  The reason for that is: it is the first magazine for men that is written by women, so for the first time women are letting guys in on what they think.”

Michael told me about one of the biggest challenges of making ‘iPad Head Girl’.  “Once the girl put on the ‘iPad head’, she was blind.  And since she had to walk around the park, we had to figure out a way for her to see inside the iPad head.  So we hid a camera inside her purse that would feed live video into a pair of video glasses she was wearing.  That allowed her to see where she was walking.”
