12seconds.tv has carved out an interesting niche for themselves. Instead of competing with YouTube, blip.tv, Vimeo and other conventional video upload/sharing sites, they focused on serving up bite sized chunks of videos limited to 12 seconds. Of course, iPhone owners were left out in the cold since the original iPhone and iPhone 3G cannot record video. However, 12seconds.tv provided an interesting solution for us by developing an 12seconds.tv iPhone app (now free) that lets you use three photos and record a voice-over to create a 12 second long slide show with narration.
This limitation goes away for iPhone 3G S owners starting later this morning. So, 12seconds.tv sent an email to their subscribers that you can simply email iPhone video clips to 12seconds.tv to post to your account.
Of course, this emailing your video tip works with a number of other video services too including YouTube. However, I’d like to offer some caution before you do this. Despite the 3G S’s improved battery life, I suspect emailing relatively large video clip files may draing your battery quite a bit. So, you may want to experiment with this technique while near a charger before doing it a lot in the field (so to speak).
BTW & FYI: I interviewed 12seconds.tv co-founder Sol Lipman back in December of 2008. You can find that podcast in an embedded player below.
