The common wisdom since the first generation iPhone became available is that U.S. designed phones were too primitive to catch on in Japan’s feature=rich go-go high-product-turnover market. And while I often point out flaws in market analyses here, I have to admit that I enjoyed reading this Electronista headline even though I haven’t fact checked the market data analysis behind the report…
iPhone 3GS bestselling phone in Japan
The Gfk Japan report quoted in the article lists the 32GB version of the iPhone 3GS as #1 in sales in July with the 16GB 3GS model holding up its end of the list at #9. The other 8 phones are models from Casio, NEC, Panasonic and Sharp that we’ll never see outside of Japan.
