iPhone 5S TouchID Fingerprint System Hacked

cases_hero_mba_11The Chaos Computer Club has already hacked into Apple’s new fingerprint ID system TouchID, the new identification tool on the iPhone 5S. While the technology is supposed to be extra secure, the group has shown that there are flaws to this type of security system. Here is more from the CCC site:

“In reality, Apple’s sensor has just a higher resolution compared to the sensors so far. So we only needed to ramp up the resolution of our fake”, said the hacker with the nickname Starbug, who performed the critical experiments that led to the successful circumvention of the fingerprint locking. “As we have said now for more than years, fingerprints should not be used to secure anything. You leave them everywhere, and it is far too easy to make fake fingers out of lifted prints.” Follow this link to see a video demonstration on how they did it.

The news comes as politicians have voiced concerns about the privacy issues related to having a fingerprint hacked versus having a password hacked.
